ASEAN Regional Guidelines on Competition Policy

The Guidelines is developed by the AEGC and is based on country experiences and international best practices. It serves as a guide for ASEAN Member States in their efforts to design, implement and enforce an effective national Competition Policy and Law regime. It is not intended to be a full or binding statement on competition policy, but helps to increase Member States’ awareness of the importance of competition policy, with a view to stimulating the development of best practices and enhancing cooperation between Member States.

Guidelines on Developing Core Competencies in Competition Policy and Law for ASEAN

The AEGC has developed a set of guidelines on core competencies in competition policy and law based on the experiences of ASEAN Member States and internationally-recommended practices. The guidelines are intended to assist and provide guidance to competition agencies in ASEAN in building up required competencies, specifically in the areas of (i) Institutional Building; (ii) Enforcement; and (iii) Advocacy.

Handbook on Competition Policy and Law in ASEAN for Business 2013

The Handbook is developed by the ASEAN Experts Group on Competition (AEGC) and aims at providing, in an easy to understand language, basic notions of substantive and procedural competition law applicable in ASEAN Member States, to the benefit of regional and transnational businesses engaged in the ASEAN region. The Handbook was first published in 2010, and updated in 2013 to take into account recent competition policy and law developments in ASEAN member states.

The AEGC has developed a set of competition advocacy collaterals in the form of a brochure and pamphlet to raise awareness among the general public on competition policy and law in the region. ASEAN Competition Commemorative Advocacy Materials

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is set to be realized end 2015, but the initiatives towards a greater integration will continue beyond that. In the area of Competition Policy and Law (CPL), efforts to formulate a post-2015 vision and strategic action plans include devising enforceable competition laws that effectively protect against anti-competitive practices and promote consumer welfare. It also includes pursuing enhanced regional cooperation on competition policy.

Toolkit for Competition Advocacy in ASEAN

The toolkit is designed as a step-by-step guide for competition authorities in ASEAN on advocating for competition policy and law. As each ASEAN Member State has different needs and priorities, the toolkit provides them practical guidance, tools and templates on advocacy for CPL.

7th ASEAN Competition Conference Press Release

As ASEAN turns 50, the 7th ASEAN Competition Conference (7th ACC) highlighted the various achievements in strengthening the competition environment in the region. Nine ASEAN Member States have enacted their competition laws, with growing awareness of the importance of a more level playing field in enhancing the competitiveness of ASEAN businesses and to promote economic growth.
