Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC)

The Competition Act and the Competition Commission Act were gazetted on 10 June 2010 and enforced beginning 1 January 2012. The acts aimed to encourage national economic development by encouraging and protecting the competition process in the market and consequently protecting consumer interests. To supervise provisions included in the Competition Act 2010, the Competition Commission was established under the Competition Commission Act 2010 on 1 April 2011.

Commission’s Main Functions

The Competition Commission Act 2010 empowers the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) to carry out functions such as implement and enforce the provisions of the Competition Act 2010, issue guidelines in relation to the implementation and enforcement of the competition laws, act as advocate for competition matters; carry out general studies in relation to issues connected with competition in the Malaysian economy or particular sectors of the Malaysian economy; inform and educate the public regarding the ways in which competition may benefit consumers in, and the economy of, Malaysia.

Enforcement Division

Principal Assistant Director, Grade 48 (1 Position)

  • To manage and supervise the preparation and drafting of any Decisions, interim measures and undertakings under the guidance and supervision of the Commission;
  • To be responsible for the Enforcement Division in legal research and analysis of any legal and enforcement matters in all investigations and decisions;
  • To supervise in the preparing and drafting the preliminary economic analysis for investigations and decisions;
  • To manage and supervise in drafting and issuance of notices, warrant, affidavit and any other legal or enforcement instruments relevant for the investigations; and
  • To draft papers for monthly Commission board meetings in relation to ongoing investigations as well as act as the Secretariat for the said meetings.
  • Assist the Director in supervising and coordinating the overall functions of the Enforcement Division;
  • To support other units in the Enforcement Division as and when required;
  • To guide and mentor the officers under his/her supervision in the completion of their tasks;
  • To work together in developing the Enforcement Division’s Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines;
  • To establish and maintain a close working relationship with counterparts from other law enforcement agencies such as the Police, Bank Negara Malaysia Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission and other ministries/agencies/regulators/ local authorities; and
  • To supervise, implement and enforce any other directions, instructions and orders made by the Commission.
  • Preferably holder of Degree/Masters in Law (Hons) and/or Economics (Hons);
  • Preferably at least 7 years of working experience in investigation and enforcement related field;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in practicing Competition Law including interest in Economics would be an advantage;
  • Posses any special skills or experience in any field related to enforcement such as auditing, supervision, regulation, monitoring, intelligence and surveillance (including online) and other relevant areas;
  • Analytical, highly self-motivated, creative and able to work independently;
  • Excellent time management and communication skills;
  • Excellent writing skills and command in English and Bahasa Malaysia; and
  • Most importantly, he/she must show having the right attitude and strong integrity, upholds teamwork principle, willing to learn and listen, highly resilient and professional.

  • To support and assist in the enforcement of the Competition Act 2010;
  • To conduct preliminary assessments on complaints and information received;
  • To conduct preliminary assessments on potential infringements;
  • To conduct investigations on cartel and abuse of dominant position cases;
  • To conduct investigation of leniency regime cases;
  • To support other units in the Enforcement Division as and when required; and
  • To work together in developing the Enforcement Division’s Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Preferably holder of Degree/Masters in Law or Economics (Hons) or Accountancy (Hons);
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience preferably in any field related to competition law or enforcement such as auditing, supervision, regulation, monitoring, intelligence and surveillance (including online) and other relevant areas;
  • Analytical, highly self-motivated, creative and able to work independently;
  • Excellent time management and communication skills;
  • Excellent writing skills and command in English and Bahasa Malaysia; and
  • Most importantly, he/she must show having the right attitude and strong integrity, upholds teamwork principle, willing to learn and listen, highly resilient and professional.
