MyCC has published its Market Review on the Digital Economy Ecosystem under the Competition Act 2010 [Act 712], the eighth market review to date. The study examines how competition operates across four digital marketplace sub-sectors, highlighting key market characteristics and interactions that may prevent, restrict, or distort competition. Data privacy and protection are addressed as a cross-cutting theme throughout the review, alongside strategic recommendations to strengthen regulatory and policy frameworks.
For the e‑commerce (retail marketplace) segment, the review examines business‑to‑consumer (B2C) marketplace platforms that connect multiple sellers with consumers for the online sale of goods. These platforms act as intermediaries, matching buyers and sellers and facilitating transactions. Service‑based platforms such as ride‑hailing, logistics and food delivery are outside the scope of this segment.
Through this market review, MyCC identified 34 issues spanning competition, market and regulatory dimensions. Addressing these challenges requires strategic coordination among relevant regulators. To support this, MyCC proposes 18 recommendations as a practical reference for strengthening existing policies and regulations
